Graville, Richard (b. ABT 1844, d. 1916)
Note: Richard Graville 1844 - 1916

we regret, to announce the death of Mr. Richard Gravil,
which occurred at his residence. King Street, Thorne, on the morning of Friday
last. He had for several years been afflicted with a troublesome and painful
disease, which from time to time prostrated him. Two or three weeks prior to
his | demise he caught cold and the result was an accentuation of the complaint.
As a last resource ha was removed to the Doncaster Infirmary, but, after a few
days, he was brought Home in a practically hopeless condition; The late Mr.
Gravil was a native of the town. and there he had lived during the whole of his
life. He had been a farmer on a moderate scale, but, latterly, owing to age and
infirmity, had lessened his responsibilities. In all the happenings within the
parish, Mr. Gravil was ever ready to take a part. He was the oldest active
member of the Thorne Rural Agricultural Society, always acting as a steward in
one direction or another. His pride in Thorne Show was of an altogether healthy
type. From the commencement of the Horticultural Society, some ten years ago,
he had been a member. Interested in the monthly lectures and meet- ings, his
presence was to be relied upon, so long as health remained, and, at the annual
exhibition he was always ready to lend a helping hand. The deceased's father was
one of the local leaders of the teetotalers and the son retained the traditional
interest by contributing to the erection of the Temper- ance Institute and
becoming one of the trustees He has left a widow, but no children. He was in his
seventy-second year. The remains were interred in the. churchyard on Monday
afternoon
